WRITER'S MEME: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
Cat's Paw (Harry Potter)
I love this because I really felt like I got Scrimgeour's voice down and there isn't enough fiction about him. Or Percy, really, come to think about it. And I love how neatly this story wraps itself up. (Also on Sugar Quill)
The Poisoned Chalice (Sailor Moon)
I am really proud of these three stories. I put a lot of work into them, both the Martian society and Jadeite's feelings and thoughts about what was going on. There is going to be a fourth story about the origin of Jadeite's fall from grace for the "Bad Advice" theme, I just have to be in the mood to write it.
The Only One (Harry Potter)
A Harry/Ginny story written before HBP that STILL stands up after that book! Ginny is going out with Dean, Harry is beginning to notice her and I just love the dialogue. I'm still so very proud of this one.
Phobos (Sailor Moon)
Few people (
dark_branwen excepted) write about the shitennou in the Dark Kingdom. Even though this is only a ficlet, I think it addresses a lot of things, and while it plays on Jadeite's unrequited passion for Rei, he remains evil.
The Exiles (Sailor Moon)
This is my grand project and its characters are nearly always on my mind. I'm trying to make it the definitive manga shitennou story. Hopefully, I'll succeed.

Date: 2007-03-31 05:22 pm (UTC)Destination Unknown - the first HP story I ever wrote (and it was accepted!). It's all about Wormtail and Peter Pettigrew - note that I speak of them as two separate people. It's set to the song Runaway Train by Soul Asylum.
Filling in the Gap - post OotP story about Remus and Harry coming to terms with Sirus's death. Pretty much AU now, but I think some parts of it are still quite good.
All That Glitters - everyone writes about Hermione's first journey to Hogwarts, but nobody writes about Ron's. So I did. I think this was when I really began to fall in love with the Weasleys as characters to write about.
Remembrance Day - Remus remembers his fallen friends climbing up Glastonbury Tor and just happens to bump into Tonks. I suppose you could call this my first R/T fic, even though nothing happens.

Date: 2007-04-19 04:32 pm (UTC)This is lovely. I always think a story like this is hard to pull off well because the Touchingly Sad Line is quite a fine one to hit, and it's easy to stray into such bleakness it's almost too much to read, or a suddenly hopeful and sparky ending, which somehow doesn't ring quite true after what has gone before. But this does read both gravely and poignantly, yet with a glimpse of light as well, thanks to the characters themselves. The lines you've chosen are perfect for it.
Really enjoyed how you brought the dead to life with Remus' memories and, in doing so, brought him into sharp focus, because so many of the recollections seem typical of him. I loved the fond line about all the Marauders' reactions to a hot summer's day, from Sirius' coffee coloured arms to James' bright red nose, and wondering if it was true about Peter's hay fever.
It's also so fitting that Remus, fearing the future and what it will bring because he knows so much about war and loss, is then confronted by Tonks, so very vivid and so very much alive. I can't help but feel that while it's hinted she's been waiting there because he's exactly what she needs, it's really Remus, in this instance, who needs her. It also seems very realistic that she'd share the loss of Sirius and want to know about the others because no one else will tell her.
I very much enjoyed this; I thought you wrote it with a lot of thought and sensitivity and it comes across extremely well. And Glastonbury Tor is an inspired setting. :)
Hopefully, the next one might actually be at the Quill! ;)

The lines you've chosen are perfect for it. - ever since I read that poem, all I could think of was Remus. And I was aiming exactly for 'grave and poignant'. It's great when you know you've hit your mark.

Someone said it was appropriate to have the "black" man turn "coffee brown"!

It also seems very realistic that she'd share the loss of Sirius and want to know about the others because no one else will tell her. - oh yes, indeed. Remus does need her, he needs someone who can remind him that there's a life to be lived. Remus is good at teaching things and if anyone's going to know how to tell the story of the Order, it's him, right? ^^ I just noticed that I wrote about Tonks having violet hair blowing across her face (merely to have a different from pink and spiky) - and that was before any photographs of Natalia! I called it! XD
Thank you for such a thoughtful review. Having been to Glastonbury, I'm pretty impressed with how this still holds up!
