Blogging Meme
Mar. 15th, 2008 01:37 pmI just realised this was the perfect meme for me. I think about a lot of things but I don't ever put them down. I should really start doing that, I know. It's probably because, for much of my life, the people around me (my own agegroup) didn't want to hear what I thought, or ignored/mocked me when I did say something. And so I've got into the habit of saying very little or only saying things to people I know will appreciate and understand my POV. But this is my LJ, for God's sake, so what better place to just express things?
This vent is partly inspired by yesterday, when I got told twice at work (by different people, in different ways, both of whom I like) that I was 'quiet'. And my immediate internal response was defensive: so what? So what if I don't talk much? What's wrong with being quiet? And what I just talked about factors into that side of my personality: there has been a change of seating, so there are some different people sitting around me, but I still feel that there's not much point in me talking about things, they just don't react, they're not interested. So what's the point in me talking if I'm just talking to myself? Secondly, the people I sit with talk a lot. And the people in my training group were also quite chatty (though I don't think I was as quiet in my training group). I don't see why I should have to shout over people just to get my point across. So maybe I won't talk that much more at work, but I will talk more in this LJ. That's my (late) New Year's Resolution.
In other news: I'm going to see The Spiderwick Chronicles this afternoon and Eastern Promises this evening. Yes, big contrast. But EP has Viggo Mortensen.

Date: 2008-03-15 08:31 pm (UTC)I definitely write about stuff in my LJ that I don't talk about a lot in real life because there's not necessarily anyone who's interested. Even if no one here is interested, it's a good outlet.
I'll return when I think of something good to ask about! :D

Date: 2008-03-16 05:13 pm (UTC)Hmmm... Sounds a little defeatist, Starsea. There's no harm in being a quiet soul, restraining your comments to just the ones of real significance or weight, but it sounds to me like you're allowing more forthright and confident personalities to overshadow you, to quash your own self-expression. It's good to have an LJ as an outlet for the feelings you have that you can't easily express to others, but don't let your LJ become an excuse to withdraw from the people in your RL workplace. You need to have a little more confidence about speaking up and sharing your thoughts. Yeah, there'll always be *some* people that won't want to listen, either because they are busy, or the topic of your conversation is not interesting to them, or they are just plain rude and obnoxious! But don't let that stop you adding your bit when you want to. You may have experienced some horribleness in the past, but try not to let that inhibit your being yourself around the people you like. You *do* like these work colleagues, don't you? Well, relax a little. Worry a little less. Be 'quiet' if it suits you, but join in with their chatter when it doesn't! In the 'wrong' company we all clam up. You're not alone there.
How was The Spiderwick Chronicles, btw? And Viggo? Was Viggo hot? *saucy leer*
best wishes

Yes, but I don't sit with them. I sit with people who only talk about dogs and going out in Gloucester. Fun fun.
The Spiderwick Chronicles were good. And Viggo is always sexy, dear, always.

Date: 2008-03-16 10:31 pm (UTC)Saw Hidalgo on telly the other week. Viggo was *hot*! I love rugged and weatherbeaten, a lived-in face, with big, intelligent eyes. He's lovely, blond or dark, though I think I would prob prefer the dark knight over the blond cowboy ... tough choice though. x

Date: 2008-03-16 11:18 pm (UTC)I prefer him dark, too. It brings out his eyes more. Did you know he's actually naturally red-headed? Just imagine him as an older Bill... *goes off into a daydream*
